GAATES’ Mission

GAATES‘ mission is to promote the understanding and implementation of accessibility of the sustainable built, social and virtual environments, including architectural, infrastructural design, transportation systems, habitat, and electronic information and communication technologies so that everyone, including people with disabilities and older persons are able to fully participate and contribute to society.

GAATES is dedicated to promoting the Guiding Principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), adopted in December 2006.

Using the guiding articles of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, GAATES is pleased to work with organizations in the private, public, government and NGO/DPO sectors with respect to :

  • The development, promotion and dissemination of knowledge and information regarding the understanding and implementation of accessibility and Universal Design of sustainable built, social, and virtual environments.
  • The promotion and implementation of Universal Design and accessibility as part of the building, adaptation, and re-construction of sustainable built, social and virtual environments.
  • The provision of technical expertise in the development of accessible Universally Designed electronic, information and communication technologies.
  • The promotion and implementation of Universally Designed accessible user interface technologies.
  • The promotion of effective communication through the provision of alternative formats, telecommunications, and electronic, information and communication technology products.
  • The promotion and implementation of Universal Design as an integral part of accessible and sustainable development.
